Googleopoly: The Motivation Behind Gmail

March 9, 2010 Posted by admin

Just before the close of business on Wednesday, Google announced that it will be launching Gmail, its new free e-mail service set to offer 1000 megabytes of free space to its users. This announcement comes after a flurry of changes at Google, all of which are geared to securing their place as the dominant search engine in light of recent competition offered by Yahoo! and soon MSN. The search engine wars have been predicted for some time now by search engine insiders, and the launch of Gmail is Google’s attempt to win the war before it gets fully started. But is Google really ready to take on the big portals?

It is very unlikely that Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page had any idea exactly how big their original search engine (then called BackRub) would actually become. Google was an innocent project through Standford University. It was a project started in the days of optimism about a free Internet not supported by ads or corporate revenues, but rather the free exchange of ideas. As a result, they focused solely on product. There were no worries about creating a flashy interface, hiring a sharp marketing team Read the rest of this entry »

How To Start A Profitable Home-Based Business

March 8, 2010 Posted by admin

There are many reasons for starting a home-based business. Some people start a home-based business for economical reasons; to earn a little extra cash for themselves. Some people turn their hobby into a profitable home-based business. With the popularity of the internet, new home-based businesses are popping up everyday. Whatever reason you may have for starting a home-based business you must make it profitable and enjoyable to be successful.

Let’s examine some of the ways your new business can be profitable, and thus a source of enjoyment.

Many new businesses fail because they don’t know whom to target there product or services. A little market research is all it takes to find out just who your customers will be. You can use the internet and a simple email campaign to ask “survey” like questions of consumers. Once you have established your client base for your product or service you need to create a business plan.

A business plan is your step by step plan of action for getting your product or service to your consumers. It acts as a “blueprint” for how you will operate your home-based business. Lay everything out on paper to see exactly how you will run your business. Too many people get excited about their new venture and find out that they may be in over their heads. A detailed business plan should eliminate such issues.

An example of a well rounded business plan should include the following:

1) Initial start-up costs if any. How much of an investment will you need to start your business?

2) Costs of doing business. This should include any promotion or production cost involved.

3) Budget. It is important that you make a budget and stick to it. Budget for your advertising/production needs on a weekly/monthly basis.

4) Advertising Plan. Decide how you would like to advertise your business. A mix of free and paid advertising is a good way to get the word out about your product or service.

5) Time Management. You have to decide how much time to allocate towards building your home-based business. There are a lot of different factors involved in this process. Such as, if you work a fulltime job, or if you have children or family issues, that may play a part in how much time you can spend on your business.

6) Goals Setting. You should have a number of short and long term goals. Ask yourself what you would like to achieve with your business. You can make your goals into intervals of 3 months, 6 months, 1 year etc.

Once you have your business plan laid out Read the rest of this entry »

March 7, 2010 Posted by admin

Like all things, theft is theft, misery loves company, negative people are everywhere, business is sometimes bad, things go up and others go down.

If those are all true then knowledge is power right? Wrong, knowledge is only power if applied. So why is it that most of us only apply \”commercialized\” marketing tactics and fail to utilize the little stuff that counts?

For instance, Google allows us to promote 2 url\’s Read the rest of this entry »

Viral Marketing with Your Signature File

March 7, 2010 Posted by admin

Computer viruses are usually a bad thing. They can compromise your security, delete necessary files, and give your PC trouble. Viruses reak havoc quickly often because they are forwarded via email and eventually reach thousands of computers.

But what if you could harness this contagiousness – in a good way?

You can! Add a signature file to your emails. A signature file is quick and easy to make, but the potential to reach many eyes is great.

How to set up a signature file:

I use Microsoft Outlook, but most email programs have a similar signature feature. Under the Tools menu, choose Options then Mail Format. At the bottom of the Mail Format menu, there \’Signature\’ button. When you click on the button, you are provided a text box to create your signature Read the rest of this entry »

E-marketplaces from Seller\’s Perspective

March 6, 2010 Posted by admin

What is an E-marketplace anyway?

E-marketplace is a business to business web based venue, where buyers and sellers meet online, generate business leads and conduct business transactions. The e-marketplace features are tailored in a manner so that a large numbers of buyers and suppliers can be serviced as a community. A participant of an E-marketplace can be a buyer, a seller or both. Unlike an E-distribution portal which is oriented to assist suppliers selling their products or an E-procurement system which is focused on buyers solely, an E-marketplace is a platform which caters buyers and sellers equally. As a participant of an E-marketplace you are able to explore buying and selling opportunities, make sales offers and buy products and services, add products and services to aggregated e-catalog and use numerous other value added features.

E-marketplaces are tremendously beneficial to all businesses that decide to participate in them. However, the potential benefits that a company can accrue from an E-marketplace are directly proportional to the factor — how heavily the company uses the offered features of that E-marketplace. The List Is The Thing

March 5, 2010 Posted by admin

Many companies begin their online sales ventures with the wrong strategy to build long term success. Thinking that a website is the core of their business leads them to focus on getting website visitors.

Making the site \”sticky\”, by using a member-only area or a community feature such as chat or a forum, may get some of your visitors to come back for more. Unfortunately, the large part of your viewers may not use these features, and being in a hurry, they are just a click away from another new and interesting website. Many of your \”hits\” are just that, a quick click, and they\’re gone forever.

The visitor that clicked away likely found your site by using a search engine. They were interested in the search term that was one of your site\’s keywords. That means that they may be your \”target customer\”.

Isn\’t it a shame that you only had one chance to sell this visitor on your product or service? Don\’t you wish that you could follow-up on that \”lead\” at a later time? With a better offer or a different related product?

You can.

The focus of your online sales business \”has\” to be capturing lead information (email addresses) and building a database of prospects and previous customers. This \”house list\” enables you to keep in touch with your leads Read the rest of this entry »

True Martial Arts and the Job of a Warrior

February 26, 2010 Posted by admin

The martial arts and the concept of self-protection is much more than mere punching and kicking, or the development of skill with a weapon. Just as a martial artist or, in the grander sense, a warrior-protector, in engaged in much more than the mere study of violence and violent methods.

This is just as so now as it has been for the past several thousand years. Regardless of the term we use to describe this person…

..champion…

..hero, etc…

The warrior is one who understands that his job or purpose is not about killing, fighting, or dying…

..it\’s about living.
